    Goal Approval

    Context:
I believe the fear of success is what prevents me (and many others) from fully carrying out goals I set myself. For example, that Going To California video I recorded was full of mistakes, and I didn't play to the song itself, nor to any set tempo. Indeed, I underestimated the difficulty, but I still could have achieved the goal had I put in sufficient work. I believe it would be a great feeling to actually play two songs (both of which I deem out of my comfort zone and definitely above my skill level) in full, without any mistakes.

    The songs:
    Going to California
    Stairway to Heaven

Now, I obviously know most of Going to California, and I also know most of Stairway. However, I cannot play either nearly well enough to be able to say "yeah, I can play that." Furthermore, I can barely play the Stairway solo, and I think it would be a great challenge to be able to play this in sync with the song.

I think it would be beneficial to initially record myself playing Stairway to Heaven to act as a benchmark for when I submit my final videos. There is already a video of Going to California, so there is no need to re-record this.

Recording over the original song, or a backing track, to show it's in sync, is a good idea.

"No mistakes" for 2 songs, which we'll hold you to, might be a tough one given the indicated total practice of ~11 hours. Doesn't sound undoable though.

You've seen the Going To California cover; I've tried and failed miserably at playing along in time with the song, so here's Stairway at my current skill level.

    Goal Update

Right, little progress on this front.
Played through Stairway (as seen above), but want to get Going to California done and dusted before I get working on that solo.

I'll use this space for some reflection...

I definitely overwhelm myself with shit to do, which just results in me procrastinating and getting anxiety due to not knowing where to start etc.. I put too much shit in my Wunderlist, then I postpone goals because I lay too high expectations for myself.

Yesterday I did my weekly shop, put a few hours into taking pictures for listings and creating the listings, and meal-prepped. Today I finalized where I want to go for my Easter trip, booked my outbound/return tickets, and my first hostel, oh and I'm gonna package the shit I sold tonight. Yes, there are still plenty of hours where I'm not 'busy', but I feel it's important to actually give yourself breaks. And by 'give', I don't mean "browse aimlessly on the internet, putting off work and getting anxious about it", but I mean actually allowing yourself a break without feeling guilty. I did this today and yesterday by watching 2 films, and I for once felt at ease when relaxing, rather than anxious/guilty for not doing work.

I feel that, once I begin my bulk (so I have sufficient energy(more on that tomorrow)), get my buying/selling formalised, get my trip sorted and just basically get my head in gear, my focus will be more aligned.

Up until Uni, I feel the two things I really want to work on are:
    Guitar.
    Physique.

Fuck girls, fuck trying to cultivate a strong friend group, buying/selling a ridiculous amount, spending 2 days a week on social activities. Perhaps I will be able to incorporate more things into my life once my life's better organized and my sleeping back to normal but, until then, it's important that I just focus on one or two things at a time. Otherwise, I'll just keep spinning my wheels, which I have been doing a little bit for a while. Yes, I've made progress in multiple areas, but I believe I would have made more if I had better aligned my focus.

Focus is good. As Carnegie said: "put all your eggs in one basket, and then watch that basket."

For the guitar, you could try breaking it down a bit, e.g. plan for this week is nail a certain part of the song. Or even break it down to the day if necessary (paper notes for tomorrow's work are usually enough for me).

This sounds a bit reactive. Remember that the opposite of crazy is ... also crazy. Now that you know you overloaded yourself, you can use that to your advantage and make sensible priorities.

And you did well with the two-movie break. At the end of the day, if you get stuff done, it makes sense to have a reward. I forgot about that too.

Speaking of eggs, I got a cut on my nose during a sparring bout and my boxing coach said: "Well, you ain't getting anywhere without breaking a few eggs on the way.", haha...

Indeed, it was. A more rational way of looking at my life currently is:
I will focus on one or two things a day, and ensure I complete them fully. Then I shall relax for the evening. Once I get my priorities set straight and my mind clearer, I can start introducing less-important things into my life that will help me grow/develop.

Yeah.. I took a day off work today as I struggled to sleep last night due to anxiety. I organized a strict list of things to get done in chronological order. I got everything done and I now feel quite at ease..

I would strongly advise you not to abandon girls and socialising when you go back to uni. As someone who did just that, it is not good at all.

Few society things here and there, odd house party, few invites to a group of people ect. will keep things moving. AND who knows what they'll bring. At the very least fun times.

Those two things are what I am most looking forward to about getting back to Uni.

It is up until then, while I am doing what I currently am (9-5 in small town for tech company) that I am to have girls and socializing as much lower priorities.

    Goal Update

    No substantial update.
No excuses, but last week was, well, difficult, but it's one foot forward I guess.
Regarding the guitar: No major progress. Not really played at all. Honestly, the update notification from my man Gort served as a reminder to pick up the guitar...

Doubt I'll hit my goal within two weeks, but I'll see what I can do. Not gonna make the excuse of 'well I've had a lot on my plate' or whatever, because I don't like making excuses for myself, when I know progress could have been made had I approached things differently.

General update (something of a 'point of reference' and if anyone wants to chime in):
    - Had a blood test today, so will see if anything comes back. Mum says the sleeping issues are probably due to anxiety and stress, and I guess this is a possibility, although I was naive enough to dismiss this possibility a few weeks back.
    - Started my bulk today. Well, I'm back at maintenance calories for 2 weeks and then will increase by 250 if my weight remains as is. I burned out on Saturday and had a rough day, but I managed to get my mind on track by Sunday evening. Had last Monday off as my mind wasn't in check.
    - New gym routine (5/3/1 BBB) should help induce some muscle growth. I anticipate actually seeing some increase in size as I've always been slim or just chubby over the last few years due to never carrying out a bulk properly.
    - Easter trip is pretty much fully organized, just need to book my day trips.
    - Got all my items I'm selling on 3 platforms now. Posted 4 things tonight and am abstaining from purchasing much more until I sell some more shit. I almost let myself get re-addicted a few weeks back, but I've stamped down before it got hold of me.
